I have an external cd burner (Microsolutions Backpack) that connects to my
parallel port. I know that it should be able to work with linux, as it seemed
to "just work" when I was using Mandrake awhile back, but I can't get it
working now.

I noticed today that df is not returning correct results. I saw that I was low
on disk space so I deleted two files from my home directory that together
were taking up nearly 1GB and then reran df. It returned the same numbers as
from before I deleted files. To wit:

I ended up going back to the packages from stable, but I took a look
at my XF86Config-4 f
I upgraded my laptop from stable with a few testing packages to all
testing via an accident with dselect last night. The next time I
booted, I realized that X had broken. Running startx results in a
half-inch flickering band on the left side of the screen, and nothing
at all on the rest of it.
