I just compiled a custom 2.4.18 kernel for my woody-running laptop.
I'm new at this and am pretty sure I am about to shutdown and be unable to
boot back up, because this initrd/lilo stuff has me baffled. Please help!
I followed the instructions about building a kernel using make-kpkg

To those who made suggestions/asked questions here's a collection of my
responses:
I originally set up the samba passwords in SWAT, but since you asked, I

Hi,
For those following the saga, I can now print from linux on the attached

the clear instructions included for compiling and installing it, and
then went to http://localhost:631 and added the printer and whalla! I

o Mozilla, I do NOT get asked for a userid or password,
and instead I get a pop up box saying: connection refused. I am logged
in as root when this happens.
Do I have firewall settings blocking 901 or something? Or overall, 1)
How can I make swat work? and 2) How do I get the printer to work?

I finally got my entire home lan on the internet.

shockingly easy if I had just known to do it first. That is, to get the
linux box "server" online I ju

can't try to fix the updates because I lost internet completely. Any ideas?
Sorry for limited info, since I myself am not sure what to provide to be
helpful.

P.S. My inexperience means that telling me to install foo won't help at
all. You have to say where foo is, how I'd find it from a bash shell and
exactly what I type to install it. I appreciate the verbosity.
