Where did \n \r \t come from? I would expect them to be \j \m \i, after ^J,
^M, ^I.
I fixed the font problem by removing and purging everything X and starting
over.
Then the next problem was that it would say it couldn't find RGB_DB. I
found that there was a link to /etc/X11/rgb.txt in
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb.txt, but the file /etc/X11/rgb.txt doesn't exist.

apt-get install x-window-system
apt-get install xlibs-dev
Then when I try to run X it says it can't find default font: 'fixed'
I had fixed this before without altering any fonts.dir or fonts.alias files.
