We are recompiling a bunch of packages to optimise them for i686. The setup is
along the following lines:
1. A copy of all six source and binary cdroms is on the hard disk
2. A local repository is at /debian/dists
3. sources.list has source and binary entries for the local repository and the
cd
I am using tar-1.13.18 built from the source code. Some of the other packages
that I attempted to build from source failed because they were packed using
bzip2 instead of gzip, and the 'tar xIfp' command in rules.unpack failed to
unpack them.
Examining the source for tar revealed that the bzip
