nstalled under /usr/src/linux?
All this is in aid of installing
the XiG commercial X server,
which has features X.org does not,
and which asks that kernel sources
(esp. headers) be installed under /usr/src/linux . . .

Lenny as it came to me has xorg version 1:7.3+18 ,
so it's presumably not because the version was too old.

The last three lines hint at the problem,
but I'm not sure where to look for more information.
dexconf merely recreates the di
mplayer shows some of the same problems,
but I don't think my instalation of it is completely correct.
Will experiment with vlc; didn't know about it.

I was told recently that the cheapest DVD drives
have the best success rates and the least failures.
Any experience from the list?
Better to buy trash than quality,
because trashy drives work better?

My applications are emacs, formatters, X-windows, gcc, and browsers.
No games; multi-media stuff is nice but not necessary.
I don't need speed, but do need a working xconfig file,
plus drivers for USB, sound, and the other i-o devices.
Debian and fvwm would be nice
I had this problem; it went away when I purged gpm;
gpm, as configured in Debian (but not in Redhat) interferes with X's mouse.

You mean to tell me (and the debian-user list) that
the .bin file for Star
-office that I downloaded is executable?
What does it _do_ when you execute it?
I'm new to Star-office, don't know how to install it even.
And reluctant to run an executable with no what-it-does file . . .
