results in a kernel panic on my machine. One thing I don't understand,

Russell, last time i had a problem with squeeze like this, it was with intel
core i3 / 5 .
The only way to install succesfully was pluging an ide connector with an old
ide optical drive
which i guess it's not an option in your case.
They were regular pc's so it was not a big problem.
