It may be worth noting that it is always on 7 when using startx,
instead of a *dm.

Thought I would share this solution/workaround.

To update it you will need to get the kernel from lenny backports.

The current Debian kernel supports only 32 cpu's.
Set CONFIG_NR_CPUS to 48 or higher and recompile your kernel.
Hi all,
Thanks for attention! I have fixed this.
The solution is that I re-edit the /etc/apt/sources/list, and delete several
links ( deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable/non-US main
contrib non-free and similar ones).
I donot know the exact reason, but after the change the command w
Hi all,
Now I have one more problem is that the OS cannot recognize the right number
of CPU Cores. The OS is Debian_5.0.8_amd64.
The computer OS running has 48-core CPU, but the OS now only can recognize
32-core of CPU.
The kernel version is 2.6.26-2-amd64.
I tried to update the version of the k

Hey list
In GNOME, if the options selected under "preferred applications" for
browsers doesn't get applied, how can I set an application to be the
default?
Case in point: I use Kmail & Icedove, and want Iceape as my default
browser for clicking links, etc. Icedove remembers this and complie

Hi all,
I am a new user of Debian OS, and I am running a simulator on Debian
5.0.8-amd64 OS.
The problem I encounter is that when I execute "apt-get install
libboost1.35-dev libboost-system1.35-dev" , and the result shows that
"Couldn't find package libboost1.35-dev, libboost-system1.35-dev".

Why would you do that? Older versions are *plenty* of bugs (and I hardly
doubt they run any better).

hello list, i need to downgrade the flashplayer in squeeze from 10.3

if i simply copy over the version saved in
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/ and set the permission to be the same as
the installed version flash is shown as not installed in the browser.

Hey, thanks! I guess it was a bug with the source because after a wait

At times when moving the text cursor around in an ncurses application,
the cursor will "hang", pausing for 3 seconds or so.
For example, when editing a file with Vim, I'll notice a pause,
where the text cursor will just hang, and I'll be blind-typing for 3
seconds or so, then all of a sudden it'll
