Another way to look at this would be to ask...
Given two available versions of a package where the higher version has
the lower priority, how do I get apt to automatically install the
lower priority one when the higher version is required to meet a
dependency?

I checked it with apt-cache policy and everything karmic is 5
This is a phenomenon in Squeeze for the recent
few weeks.
A Linux router and workstation are connected
with a crossover cable. This is on the router.
Communication appears normal until after
some minutes or hours it freezes so that
"/etc/init.d/networking restart" fails.

Hi
How to play sound as a different user in GNOME?
I have a habit of running web browser as a separate user, so that
running all those malicious programs from the Web is safer. But from
time to time I need to decode Flash content. Video is OK but I have no
sound.
I tried Rhythmbox --- same here.

Hi,
I have two CD-DVD writers on this machine. It is equipped with a ASUS

connected through IDE.
Here is the output of `lshw' for the problematic CD-DVD writer:

Thanks all. I moved /opt to /usr/local/opt and then used the obvious
solution of symlinks (as suggested by Eduardo) to point /opt to
/usr/local/opt and it worked! By the way, I'm the only user of this
machine and that should not cause any problems.
