infinite loop inside dpkg

The loop that's causing the package installation problems happening here is one without an exit so far as software performance behavior on this end show. I can leave aptitude or apt-get run with this error condition and they none of them terminate unless and until I hit control-c a couple time

Last night I did a complete reinstall of debian and am in the sid distribution now. That was to clear the iceape problem. A few minutes ago though this same thing happened when installing nethack-common a totally unrelated package. Something almost for sure is broken with the debian package

I have terrible display update performance when using iceweasel with Hummingbird Exeed on a windows box as the X-server. This started with the etch version of icewasel. I assume its something to do with the X-protocol and/or the network settings, but I can't figure out how to proceed. Any ideas?
