can't use default kernel's sb16 module

I have SB16 and installed sarge, but can't make it play. autodetect does not do the magic It seems to me that my card is not PNP, but sarge first use a ISA-PNP module, which fails. Don't those developers know SB16 have both PNP and non-PNP version? _
