I am having trouble getting the serial port on my laptop to work. I have a
Dell Latitude running potato. The port works fine when I boot into Windows -
it is Com1 at x03F8, irq 4. I have had no luck getting it to work in Linux,
however. After boot, "dmesg" gives me:
. . .
Serial driver version 4
Sound wasn't working because /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer weren't user
read/writeable... duh :-\
For networking I had to run pump and not dhclient. What's more, I had to
run pump without any switch first and then run pump -R (don't know if
the pump -R was even necessary).
Anyway, it's fixed...

Why do you want to burn you CPU? a fan is very cheap.. less than $15 some
models. You can buy one in all computer stores.
Just curious.. why do you want to make this? (maybe you have other
solutions)

Not sure what's going on.. have you tried regenerating your personal

I have a logitech firstmouse+ (imps/2 protocol for both gpm and xfree).
The mouse is erratic in X unless I first kill gpm.
Is this a known problem?
