I just recompiled my kernel in an effort to get sound working. Just
after the LILO display, several lines (20-30?) of (4-digit, IIRC) hex
numbers scroll by in a single column. Then the normal boot process
continues. I get an error about vmmon (VMWARE), and maybe others that I
haven't noticed, but t
Anybody out there who has debianized the Tango Server system? I want to
install it but do not have the skills to convert the installation
scripts from Red Hat to Debian. The files are not distributed as .rpm so
I can not use alien to convert them.

That partially worked. Problem is, it only installed those packages with
'Priority: required'. I suppose I can change all priorities to 'required',
since I'll be restoring the original 'status' file - is there any good

A lot of files in /etc can be read by all users and they don't need it, so,
it's a security hole.

Is it possible to install two different versions of Debian on the same
system (in different partitions, of course!) ? If I do that, do I need a
second swap partition?

I have an old HP Netserver 5/100 with a buildt in aci7770 controller
but when i boot debian the kernel says 'BUG!' , anyonw tried to install
debian on this machine, or is there a bug in adaptecs aic chip ?

I'm using slink that I've upgraded to kernel 2.2.9
Suddenly I can't use the man command. It yields
libc.so.6 can't be loaded!
ldd man responds libc.so.6 -> Not Found
This is stupid because the system wouldn't start
if so. Besides I can list the libs and the links in /lib
and I can compile

Well, I can't seem to compile a kernel that doesn't generate an
endless stream of error messages when I try to boot. Here's what I
get (repeated until I reboot):
kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k binfmt-464c,errno=8
request_module[binfmt-464c]: fork failed; errno 11
