When I start X, it fails with the message:
Fatal Server Error:
Cannot open mouse (Operation not supported by device)
It's a PS/2 mouse, and it gets detected by the motherboard on bootup.
XF86Config has "PS/2" for Protocol and "/dev/psaux" for Device

I'd say that it was most likely to be a scsi problem, check you logs and
see if the are any messages about scsi being reset. Personally, I have had
very little trouble with samba but my one of my scsi drives would
occasionally spaz and kill whatever transfer I had been doing.

ok this is all on default slink install stuff from a 4-cdrom set
purchased off of cheapbytes. netscape/mozilla gives errors in X just
various stuff as well as hitting "enter" in the location textbox at top
does nothing. i have to goto file->open to goto a webpage. i did not

I now have a 1.6 gig hd to add to my Linux (test) box. This is an old 486 mb
without LBA mode.
All the drives (as yet) installed are 540 M or less.
Can I add the 1.6 G without ontrack or similar programs?
This isn't intended (at this time) to be a bootable drive.

Try going back to a previous version of ppp. I installed 2.3.7-3, and my ppp
broke completely. Going back to whatever version came with hamm or slink

The BIOS was flashed from 1007 to 1008B2 to get round a problem
with boot-up errors caused by incorrect report

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. It turned out I had compiled
my kernel with fat,msdos, and vfat built as modules, and I was attempting
to load vfat before I loaded the others which were like "prerequisites" to
vfat, thats why I was getting the kernel complaint at boot-up.

ps2 mouse. I have to remeber to not move the mouse until I get the
psaux support loaded (kernel module) and before running gpmconfig. You
may have to rebuild your kernel for this support. The kernel module is

How about using 'chage'. I think you probably need to play with the -M

I use netscape mail in Windows and Linux, with a common mail directory

I already tried to guess the partitions with fdisk, so i don't have the
partition table anymore.
Anyway, i KNOW what i wrote to it. I did "dd if=resc1440.bin of=/dev/hda",
so it's the debian rescue disk that was written to the beginning of the
hda drive.

Since you are running it as root, it will attempt to delive the mail
from your ISP to "root" user. This is a bad practice.
