Problem 1.
i downloaded source for linux 2.0.34 so that i could recompile with sound.
using 'make config' i chose to install sound as a module (as advised by
some kind ppl) and compiled the kernel by:
a) make dep;make clean
b) make zlilo
c) make modules
d) make modules_install

Sorry for the off topic question. How can I get cvsweb to show the
existing directories in the repository without listing CVSROOT? I've

I have been using xemacs19 for a while, but I recently tried to run
viper without success. Viper appears to work properly, up until I
tried to exit insert mode. The escape key doesn't appear to exit
insert mode, but is instead interpreted as the start of a M-key
sequence. I then removed my .emac
When you run a script, you get a new copy of the shell to run it.
The change to the environment happens for the new shell but not
for the parents environment. Try using the source command, as in
. shellscript
to see if that makes a difference.

I think I've got something very odd going on. I can export variables
successfully from the prompt but not from shell scripts. I.e. typing
$export silly=test
shows silly=test in the environment but putting
export silly=test2
in a shell script and executing it doesn't get any chan
i get this error as well as a lot of errors during the compile(?)
complaining about references to free variables.
i also get errors about a symlink that is supposed to be slave link or
non-existent
as Kent said (below) i also have put this on the back burner but would love
to see a fix posted.

drive in it but it didn't have enough room for all the stuff I wanted. I

because you to do not have a PS/2 mouse interface. Therefore
creating a mouse device would not be practical. However
if you want a /dev/mouse device simply create a symbolic
link to ttyS0 via the command ln -s /dev/ttyS0

installed a couple of ttfonts in /usr/share/fonts/truetype (monotype.ttf,
voyager.ttf)
then run the following commands:
xfstt --sync --dir /usr/share/fonts/truetype (this adds ttinfo.dir and

The one thing this doesn't mention is it hasa time limit and then it
expires. Just to save some people a 30mb download...

I'm not sure what table you are referring too. But xdm is not running as
shown by ps -a. And using the xdm script in init.d does nothing too. The
xdm-errors file is empty. As you can tell, I did investigate the problem

found 2 different ways to set it as the background:
$ xv -root -quit -max /usr/share/wallpaper/foo.jpg
or
$ wmsetbg /usr/share/wallpaper/foo.jpg
However, the most currently packaged wmaker I can find for Debian is
