Use dpkg's force-conflicts option. It probably should be harmless; but if
either fails, uninstall (--force-depends) the older one (determine its
version number first) and install the new one (--force-depends again).

You need a newer version of bash. You can find it for bo at
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/bo-unstable. I was using it for about 2

By any chance had you upgraded to xbase 3.3.2.2-2 just before this
happens. In that upgrade, the link from /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc to
/etc/X11/Xsession is broken. The fix is to either add the link or upgrade
to 3.3.2.2-3.

What do you mean "driver"? With XFree86, there are a series of X server

Yeah, memtest takes "words" as arguments. That's 32 bits on
386/486/Pentium so

produced no results.
I am running a Debian 1.3.1 system with a 2.0.33 kernel and v4.05 of Netscape.
I have my helper apps setup in Netscape but when I click on a link that is
supposed to launch an application, I always ge

I have recently installed debian on a laptop. It has the NeoMagic chipset,
and I have read all the files and tried numerous configurations. My problem
is, the screen comes up blank. X is running, because when I click with the
mouse it runs the hd. When I exit X, I can see all the server message

invalid shell path. chsh didn't detect this mistake
like it does for a regular user!
I wasn't aware of my blunder till next time I tried to
login as root.

A new version of my E package can be had from
www.livenet.net/~shaleh/software/enlightenment. I am working on new
Imlib and Fnlib packages. There is a known bug w/ Imlib 1.6 and E. It
is a rather obscure one and should not affect anyone. It is also a
mostly cosmetic one.
E should no longer try
Hello,
I just recently updated the X11 packages on my Hamm system from rev 3.3.2.1-1
to 3.3.2.2-1 and then to 3.3.2.2-2. Ever since, simple X-Y mouse movements
cause the window manager to act as if the mouse buttons are being randomly
pressed. This of course causes all sorts of annoying things
Hi,
Sorry to reply to my own post but it looks like the reason the
second session failed was because I am running the extra font
server that is using the socket. When the second session tries
to open it it fails. I won't know until tomorrow.

Hello all,
I am trying to get cvs to help me download the Gnome source tree via
the anonymous cvs service they offer. I was doing this under 1.3 and
it worked fine, but now I get a Seg Fault when executing 'cvs login.'
Example:
whitehouse$ export CVSROOT=':ps
I have a Debian<-->NTsp3 network working. I am certianly no expert, but
I will be glad to work with you on this.
I assume you have tcp/ip installed on the NT machine. It doesnt come that
way out of the box. I think you have to install tcp/ip to even assign an ip
address. Make sure you reran

Hi,
Thanks for the help but it does not quite work. I did just what
you said but when I start the second X session it fails. The
output of "startx -- :1 -bpp " is appended below. It looks like
a problem with the first X session locking things up. Could it
be the default security (xauth) stuff
