e2fsck scan on active partition

Is there a way to "safely" do a e2fsck scan on your active and boot partitions? I dont want to fix any problems, I just want to see if there are any problems without booting a different partition/resq disk. there is the -n option but I dont know if that is _safe_ Thanks! --Udjat. -- TO UNSU
