Chock one up to hardware inexperience. I had just installed a 16M upgrade
on my brother's 486 -- a single 16M SIMM in one memory slot. The computer
saw it, but I had heard that SIMMS must be installed in pairs, so I was
perplexed. The 486 is a 32-bit processor after all. I found out later

Has "Debian" defined any specific meaning to runlevels 2, 3, 4, and 5?
For example RedHat puts everything in 3, everything but NFS stuff in 2,
and starts xdm at run level 5 (as well as starting everything else). Run
level 4 on the other hand is left totally open for the user.
As far as I can tell

This may be possible but I'm still getting a grasp on

Thanks for the info. Just a couple of questions
What type of serial port do you have? 16550? How fast are you running the
serial connection? Higher than 11
Wrong : the cache is under ~/.netscape/cache
Right : 'Clear cache now' resolves the problem. (for me at least)
I had the same problems, certainly bec. I once 'rm -r .netscape/cahe' ,
or something like that .
Now it caches pages. What is pretty stupid as my link to the proxy server
is ethernet.
I have a slightly different question. I have x/xdm running fine on vt7 on
bootup. However, I'd like to be able to start a second X session on vt8,
so that, if I am logged into X on vt7 and have locked the screen with
xlock, other people can hit cntrl-alt-f8 and get a new xdm screen that

Actually, in the new Debian release (rex), they have the "zip" and
"unzip"
Debian packages for pkzip ".zip" files. They're located in the directory:
stable/binary-i386/misc
Their actual names are:
stable/binary-i386/misc/zip_2.01-14.deb

Is there a /etc/issue.net equivalent for ssltelnet?
I like ssltelnet, but I don't much like

My Debian box hangs on boot if you don't physicaly shut it of and on. The
reboot comand or even ctl+alt+del are a sure to crash when it reboots.

Trouble? e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .
I think this user has to run "fromdos" (in the sysutils package) on the
files, to replace the MS-DOS CR-NL line endings with just plain CR.

I had a problem that with the ^M in the make file made it
not work properly. What was the exact error message ?

it was a problem I'd caused, rather than a problem with the package...
