increase the number of lines on the screen. Setting kernel vidmode
results only in 80x25, 80x28 and 80x50 modes. There is no gain for

I think smail refuses to rewrite the from: field. So, if Your mail app is
adding a from: field smail will leave it unchanged. You have to make your
mail app add the right from: field (or non att all) to fix it. If You find

Our local network has a mail server (ehess.cnrs-mrs.fr).
Any mail (sent directely or through pine) to an external server
from my PC with linux reaches its aim without problem.
However, any mail sent to a local user (such as [EMAIL PROTECTED] etc)
fails and generates a "[EMAIL PROTECTED] use

I just tried to install another network printer. After fiddling with
/etc/printcap I got problems. To make a longer story short: I decided
to dpkg -r lpr. This went fine. So I reinstalled lpr, using
lpr_5.9-12.deb.
After setting up rm and rp in /etc/printcap I tried lpr ...

the need to use mt erase on a tape. This works for linux 2.06, but does

the floppies (this is kinda dumb, why not install off of the cdrom?)

Somehow I lost or deleted file "update-rc.d". I'm not sure whether it should
go in /sbin or /usr/sbin. Would someone be really kind and eMail me a recent
version of this binary file.
Dpkg won't install certain packages without this file and I'm really stuck.

response to "set locale ...".
After installing the debian package locale-bin, the problem has
apparently been solved.
Even if I use the configure switch '--with-linux-vga', ./configure
doesn't see -lvga.
