Yes, it can. However, because of the large number of dependancies involved
in such a huge upgrade, you might find "dselect" with "dpkg-ftp" a better
solution in this case. Dselect su

Just install wu-ftpd.
You will see that Debian has one just like you suggest here.

Oh dear. Of course the right thing to do is to install wu-ftpd.
Could the ftpd manpage be change

Well, you are not alone. I also have this "problem", when I recompiled
this kernel the first time. What you could do is: not select PPP when you
are in make config. Then just follow the steps to finish the 'roll your own
kernel': make dep; make clean; make zImage. You should not have any

I just added the correct entry for nobody, and it works fine now.
I believe it is a bug, seeing as it was from a fresh install from the
debian 1.1 beta. Maybe I should have said yes to the question of
updating the /etc/passwd. I figured the initial installation would

The problem was that nobody had a shell of /dev/null (check this in

You can just delete them in the rcX.d directory. They will remain in
/etc/init.d. Another solution

Here is what I have in my directories. This was setup automatically when
I installed "wu-ftpd", I believe.

gzip* ls*tar* zip*
