While surely it's good news if it's really working on 3.5.8, the fact is that
current Stable still makes data disappear without notice which is quite a
serious problem.
Is there any intention to backport the solution to Sarge's 3.5.5?

I don't know if it's possible for a non DD to change the bug severity --
If so, I wasn't able to figure it out.
This bug should be tagged as Grave, it renders the package entirely
unusable for its intended purpose
