I solved the problem but forgot to update this report, sorry.
All that was necessary was the following line in the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 or
now in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Option "XaaNoPixmapCache"
and adding the following line to /etc/modules:
intel-agp

A bit late ... but yout problem is difficult to reproduce.
Can you provide more info or confirm the bug existence in kde 3.5.1 ?
