Just wanted to pitch in that the bug is still present in kdm 3.5.1-1 in
testing where it bit me on a recent upgrade. I tried just about everything:
xorg reconfigure, fiddling with console-data et al, no luck. Given that gdm
and xdm has keyboard input on reboot, and kdm had it provided I first boot

When I start the system, everything looks fine. But when I try to login I can't
type anything. Only the mouse works. Starting the login manager takes a long
time and XFree86.0.log indicates that vt2 is used.
