I have the same problem. I can sometimes logout (not shutdown) from KDE
without problems. If I try to shutdown, kwalletmanager crashs. If he not
crashs, he wait ("ps aux" says as last process: "sleep 5").
So: this "waiting" can make it possible, that system goes down, but X (kdm) is
still activ

find KIconLoader an tell him, what he have to do by warnings, errors and fatal
errors (possibile: syslog, shell-output, warning-window etc)
