Hello!
After update my kde system not fully loaded. I can start apps with ALT-F2, but
the screen is empty.
There are some messages is syslog:

Now it works again.
The only thing I remember which might have caused this improvement is a
restart of X.
So this means that there is something which, when it happens, renders
kate incapable of opening UTF-8 files correctly.
Maybe more details will make themselves known in the future.

Most of the time when opening UTF-8 encoded files, kate doesn't open
them correctly (maybe even all the time). They open fine in kwrite,
though.
Creation of UTF-8 files seems to work fine, though.
Since I use this program in an I18N setting (
g the stutter) can be muted
with kmix's
master slider, but it comes back when increasing the volume.

I also found that even closing said expanded directory listing in
konqueror takes a VERY long time (about 30 minutes during which all
konqueror instances are unusable). This seems totally unnecessary.
