I filed #677252 against kdemultimedia as part of a larger effort to transition
all Debian packages away from earlier libmusicbrainz versions, and I've been
hoping to achieve this in time for wheezy.
All versions prior to mb4 (which was never packaged for Debian) use an older,
deprecated

I was stung by this 'change of behaviour' too, but I'm not sure it is a
bug. I think your workaround is in fact the correct thing to do in order
to get the desired result. You simply have to manually save your
configuration changes for them to last longer than the session.
