Indeed, konsole works as expected in a new user environment. Probably, the

When I do spell checking in a greek text, written in UTF-8 encoding, the
aspell-el spell checker highlights parts of two adjacent words and not a
single word. The wrong word is nearby and one of course can visually
locate it and correct it
