This bug affects stable as well.
Would it be possible to fix this bug in the upcoming stable point
release as well? I think proposed-updates will be closed in the near
future as the point release is planned for next weekend, so an upload
should be prepared soon.

I had the same problem. Checking my .xsession-errors, this was
because both metacity and openbox were being spawned by the
gnome-session in a tight loop. I'll have to go report that separately..
That doesn't seem to be the case in your process list, but it might be
similar, in case it might not
