however is cater for machines with multiple batteries such as my Thinkpad X40.

This is an upstream bug in KAlarm. It has now been fixed for KDE 4.2.3 (KDE
SVN commit 955833).

When I remove a user from my contact list, an empty entry remains. Going
off- and online or restarting kopete does not help. I only tried ICQ
contacts. The emtpy contacts don't contain any information, they are
plain empty.
