Looking at the source, I think it is not supposed to show a text entry box in vertical mode, but it is supposed to pop one up when clicked. It seems to pop up an invisible window and pass focus to it. I couldn't figure out how to get appletproxy to pretend to be a vertical panel, so I'm stuck for
