I have the same problem using debian-testing (kde 3.2.2). I have not tried
adding or removing entries/submenus, but editing menus does not work. I
followed the instructions have attached file1 and file2, i have not attached
file3 as there was no diff (so i dont see a reason to attach an empty
CVS commit by benb:

I found a bugreport connected to my problem that kopete depends on gtk.
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67653
Will there be a solution (will kopete be available as a package which does not
depend on nonkde libs) in the near future or must I compile myselfe?
