I have Debian Sid (unstable), with OpenOffice and the UK English UTF8
locale the submitter has.
To get consistent UK spelling in OpenOffice you have to go to;
"Tools>Options>Language Settings" and set the "English

I have recently installed Debian Sarge with English (Britain). I did
not install any US English locales. My locale is set to en_GB.UTF-8.
I just loaded OpenOffice.org Writer and it is defaulting to US spelling.
I wonder if you are already aware
