Just tried it on i386 (Squeeze, OOo 1:3.2.1-6). Works fine for me, with
--no-oosplash parameter:
$ see --debug 20100303_depen.doc

- Reading mime.types file "/etc/mime.types"...
- extension "doc" maps to mime-type "application/msword"
- Reading mailcap
