Just in case it helps: same here, with any file type (.ppt, .doc, .xls).
I'll attach the trace I get when trying to open an .xls file.

I attach the output of ooimpress when trying to open a ppt file, and
the output of oowriter when opening a .sxw file. In both cases openoffice
crashes
just after starting.

The newest version of openoffice.org crashes as soon as one tries to
open a file (i.e. in writer). The last message I get in the terminal

Hi,
When upgrading this morning I found that openoffice.org is unusable. After
opening an application it freezes and the CPU sticks at 100% load. This only
happens after starting to work in a document or when opening a file.

openoffice.org-writer don't work on amd64, not at all. It hangs 100%
running every time I try to run it, only after writing a single word,
