From looking at upstream reports it seems that this is probably related
to locking daemons. I don't have access to an AFS share, and since I
run 2.6 kernels in all the likely suspects it seems unlikely that I will
be able to have one at any time in the future :-(

This is an example using a tarball to install, I wonder if the binary file
could cause problems? It is probably safer to change the path using pwd
