the override file for various binaries built from the gcc-3.4 sources
should be modified to list these packages all as optional.
gcc-3.4_3.4.1-4sarge1 on the Alpha still uses the --as-needed switch supported
by binutils-2.15 but not 2.14.90.x that is in sarge.
I assume gcc-3.4_3.4.1-4sarge1 has been built on a system with binutils
2.15. I rebuilt it on my Alpha with binutils-2.14.90 and it works fine.
