I think it's generally a good idea. You wouldn't want to "enforce" this
- you would set it as an overridable default

Hi,
It appears that gcc-7 no longer compiles in Thumb mode by default on
armhf.
My guess is that it was caused by this change which was intended to
remove all the java / gcj code:
https://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/gcccv
, he tells me it has some other issues and isn't suitable to be
applied (which is presumably why it was reverted).

It looks like the necessary support for go closures on mips isn't
implemented in the version of libffi in gcc 6.
There appears to be a PR here which fixes it:

Hi,
I managed to successfully bootstrap gnat on mips64el, but it required a
small patch to the build system for it to build on Debian. It's similar
to patches used on other 64-bit arches and is due to Debian not putting
the 64-bit
go on mips64
since it's built by gcc-4.9 as well. I didn't enable gcj in the
gcj_archs field because gcj seems to be broken on mips64el (I haven't
investigated why).
Thanks,
James

Sorry, I uploaded it to the wrong queue (it should have been sent to a
private repo). God help me if I ever become a DD.
