$ man gcc
No manual entry for gcc
See 'man 7 undocumented' for help when manual pages are not available.
$ dpkg -S gcc|grep -F man1/gcc. || echo nope

I'm also curious to know if xterm has always had this problem on Debian
ARM, or if it has cropped up only with recent revisions of GCC. Can anyone
tell me?

[I checked 1:3.3.3-1, and it doesn't have this functionality, either.]
Please apply the following patches from upstream CVS so that glibc can
also be modified to support backtracing on ia64.

libncurses-dev is also a pure virtual package.
I recommend: libncurses5-dev | libncurses-dev

Come to think of it, does gcc-2.95 need to depend on an Essential
package at all?
awk is in the weird position of being a virtual Essential package,
thanks to mawk.
If gawk specifically is needed, then gawk is what should B-Ded on.

gcc-2.95 should not Build-Depend on a pure virtual package.
I suggest changing the current build-dep on "awk" to "gawk | awk".

y, the miscompilation is not PowerPC specific. It happens on
i386 as well, and probably everywhere.

This is a regression from GCC 3.2.
While compiling XFree86 for mips and mipsel, each build fails
identically.

You're going to need more information from me on this, I'm sure, but I'm
filing the bug now so I don't forget to file it at all.
When testing XFree86 4.2.1-7 on my PowerPC I found that compiling the
tree with -O2 (per

libstdc++.
Thanks for the clarification.

If it *is* a FAQ, I suggest explaining the incongruity. :)
Thanks for guiding my stupid mind through this.
