does anyone know about the maintainer of x-symbol? The package is
heavily outdated and there are some open bug reports (with many
unanswered by Steve Dunham).
I would be very glad to see a version in Debian that's in sync with the
upstream release.

I'm also desperately waiting for a more or less official Debian Emacs
CVS package so I downloaded your file and did a CVS checkout of today's
Emacs.
