I'm going to pyut my maintainer application in RSN (I have to scan in my
license *grumble*)
After that, I would like to package micq, which is a text mode icq client,
which is in the public domain. I already have preliminary version
packaged.

Things like eject, cdtool and other CD-audio applications try to
access /dev/cdrom directly. It is not strictly required (the user
can always specify the device to use), but convenient.

I have a small script ready that checks packages for setuid/setgid
files. There are some other things that would IMHO be interesting to
check from a security perspective - we can probably get some good
information from this once the infrastructure in in place.

The debconf question will be dropped in next upload. It asks about the
/dev/cdrom symlink that is created elsewhere nowadays.

Don't bother

As Stephan said, I'd be thrilled to work together with you to make
licensing and copyright in Debian and ideally also upstream easier and
more understandable for users and developers.

Therefore, such a file in /debian could only cover files in this
directory. But I understand that in this special scenario it would be
useful. I could think of ways how either Debian or REUSE introduce some
hacks around it, but before we elaborate on this I think there are other

a lot of these things already, albeit with a different form of functionality
than dpkg and apt.
