I'm someone who has a big interest in projects such as Debian
GNU/kFreeBSD and have made small contributions along the way. I would&

kfreebsd-{i386|amd64} uses a proper, ported Glibc, so there won't be any
sort of support for just dropping in a GNU/Linux package and having the
emulation layer handle it.
In regard to a 'releasable state', kfreebsd-i386 is indeed getting very
close.

This is just a suggestion/idea, and if it's stupid, feel free to flame me.
Why not develop some sort of apt-build based net install that allows the user
to download source archives and optimize the packages to the architecture etc.

I've noticed the debian-desktop page mentions an "X/gtkfb port".
I assume gtkfb has something to do with gtk running on the frambuffer. Does
this make any difference to the actual writing of the gtk c
