I've uploaded jgraph-83-6, which should fix this.
I earlier asked that the broken jgraph package be removed from
the distribution. This replacement should go back in.
The problem apparently was spurious -g flags in the makefile which
didn't cause a problem with earlier build tools but did with c

Yesterday, I did my first debian install from the 27 Sep

went fine. Last night, I was unable to reboot it from
the boot floppy. I don't recall whether or not I had
more than one successful boot on it.
This morning I reinstalled. Please bea

Me neither. Also possibly me too. I dimly recall a SlackWare utility
to massage the screensaver, but some "man -k"ing and grepping around
didn't turn up anything on my debian system.

It sounds as if most of these problems are with the old root disk.
Please get the new root disk from Ian and test that.

Oops. I think this is what we need "Setterm" for.

In the smail postinst prompting after initial 0.93r6 install, I
selected "local only" (option 4?) and postmaster to root ("none"?).
I didn't have smail send a test message, but later used mailx to
send a message to root. After doing this, "mailx" said "No mai
I think "Setterm" was able to set the screen blanker timeout, or turn it off.
We could do it in the setup.sh if we wanted to and had a copy of setterm that
we could distribute without copyright hassles. I suppose this can wait
for the next release, though.
Bruce
I understand the arguments against it. Even so, I miss the option
to skip badblock checking when formatting linux partitions during
setup processing (and reprocessing, and re-reprocessing for multiple
installs).

We're aware of this one, and hopefully it will be repaired today. I think
we really only need to provide another flag to "halt" to keep it from
happening.

Yes, setterm can do it. However, all it takes is sending an escape
sequence to the console. The sequence is "\033[9;n]", where n is the
desired interval in minutes. This can esily be done from a shell
script without
The system allowing you to boot an unconfigured root is my error.

I think my fsstnd copy may be outdated. I have two:

Despite the version numbering, 1.1 seems later, so I refer to
that one.

a new one. This one will pause and ask for an ENTER after error messages.

Several problems. Some major. Some have been reported previously.
1. mkboot won't make a boot disk on 0.93r6. It tries to
dd /boot/vmlinuz to the floppy, and that file does not exist
in 0.93r6.
2. It looks like it'd likely make an unusable boot dis

The 27 Sept version, downloaded from pre-release on 30 Sept.
I don't really like mkboot at all. I guess I could put something that
creates a syslinux or LILO boot disk in its place, so that the user
could at least have a boot command line.

I fixed the host.conf, am now adding the mail spool directory, and the

I know this one isn't likely to get fixed before the drop-dead, but for

The /sbin/installkernel that is in the miscutils package on the September

mkboot now resides in /usr/sbin.
