When I do apt-get dist-upgrade I see this happen:
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove it.
The following packages will be upgraded:
linux-image-3.12-1-amd64
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
49 not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 0 B/29.6 MB of archives.

Oops. Yes, I did. I don't understand why it should hang; I'll log it as
a bug and investigate. Might it be due to what you installed next? (I
can't reproduce it yet; any further info would help).

No, its a sign that the console-data maintainer (me) doesn't know what
is the best keymap for each of the given (human) languages/keymaps, and
needs help!
If you have one of these systems, your opinion would be invaluable.
{ I want to make this go away before Sarge is released).

I just point my apt source list to test unstable and console-data does
not like it!... Here is the message and dselect just stop (I have to
C-c to get out):

Yeah, hence the fact that my message to Dale quoted from my own FAQ,
available in xfree86-common.

I was gifted with a 2 gig SCSI drive, so the first thing I tried was
installing a system.
I installed Potato from a set of CheapBytes CDs, but did not set up X at
that time. Then I upgraded over PPP to the latest Woody archives. The
"automatic" X setup failed, but then I've never had that work for

And/or make the new Perl pre-depend on the new apt, so the apt update
will happen before anything else?

Why don't we make the new perls conflict the old apt?

Please run "apt-get install apt" before doing the dist-upgrade. Old apt
don't manage well the perl transition. This will be documented in the

I just considered upgrading a slink server here to potato. I
apt-get updated and then ran apt-get dist-upgrade.
exim is held back, because libopenldap1 is uninstallable,
because libopenldap-runtime is uninstallable, because debconf

libgtop0 now installs libraries with soname 1. Strange. In particular that
breaks lost of gnome apps depending on soname 0. If this is brought back
keep in mind that gtop has to be recompiled too since it depends on 1.
