Oh, well, it seems the new version was just packaged some days ago, so
this is now a non-issue.

The prefered way ist to run dvips in your working directory (e.g. done
by AuCTeX) and feed the PostScript output to lpd. The command to do this
is 'dvips -f file.dvi | lpr'.

Your right about AucTeX, heck I've used it many times now. We did just
switch LaTeX distributions though didn't we?

I've uploaded auctex_9.8i-1 to master: maybe someone could look at it to
see if I've done things the right way.
I put a note in Description telling XEmacs people they don't need to
install it and compiled things with GNU/Em

AucTeX is not a TeX distribution but a set of Emacs macros for easier

I think this might be because teTeX has now replaced AucTeX as the Debian
TeX/LaTeX distribution of choice. Of course TeX/LaTeX

Auctex installation fails on a fresh "rex" system as the line
(require 'tex-site.el)
is written to /etc/site-start.el. With emacs-19.34 and the new /etc/emacs/
directory, it should be written to /etc/emacs/site-start.el.

The postinst steps through the tex directories and generates .el code
for auc-tex's use. This process can take a long time on slow
machines.
