I agree that it sounds like a better way to do the job. I think the
interested parties should decide together if they are able to deploy
it reasonably _soon_. I have started work on

Yes, but 0.1-1 installs the manpages in a wrong directory.

Install the newest version (0.1-5; available from
ftp.infodrom.north.de:/pub/people/joey/debian).

Let's plan on having "shadow" be part of the base for 1.2 . We should thus
have the default "login" be aware of it, etc.
Thanks
Bruce
Is this the final decision of the project leader, or is

The latest iteration of the tar package unfortunately is not able to
understand the "--" flag. I suggest you not use that flag in dpkg-source
for now.
Thanks

Package: tar
Version: 1.11.11-1
Tar complains a lot in the form
directory-name: Could not create directory: Directory not empty
As far as I can tell, this is spurious.
Tar doesn't understand the "--" flag, which a past version handled.
I think it's meant to have the standard GNU usage of not interpreting
any arguments past the "--" as flags.

I finally bit the bullet and started work on the TeX packages to make
them build on multiple architectures. Well, since I don't much at all about
TeX, I'm not sure what's platform specific. I'm especially concerned
about endianness.
As far as I can gather, the only files that aren't independ

It seems the newest version of 'tar' sets (during extract) the uid/gid and
the mtime of the file a symlink points to instead of the symlink itself.

I tried export LANG=de but that did not change anything.
Please provide documentation somewhere about how to use the manpages.
Also on the mentioned website there is also NO INFORMATION about how
