I've found out the bug was in fact caused by treating EINTR from
select as an error instead of retrying. The attached patch fixes it.
PS: reindent it as you wish. Your indentation style (spaces combined with
tabs)
is really awful.

The new copyright statement is in line with those for other components of

You will no doubt be delighted to know that the lock up is still
happening, despite my previous report.
It's definitely not tied to the particular 'g,g' sequence; I can trigger
it just by starting aptitude and then navigating (e.g. using '[', arrow
keys, etc.).
Multithreading sucks.
