Hello Daniel,
To find gtk-engines-2, configure file use pkg-config.
Pkg-config need $PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable to find the
gtk-engines-2.pc file.
This file is in ./debian
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=./debian solve the issue
A patch to apply on configure file is attached.
