There were no t
When I start josm using 'JAVACMD=/usr/bin/jamvm josm' and
'JAVACMD=/usr/bin/gij-4.1 josm' in todays unstable, I get a working
version of josm. I can download map data, at least. Did not have
time to try to upload any edits.

Now I installed gij 4.1 additionally. I couldn't remove gij 4.3. Now I still
get the missing icon messages but then no window opens, the starting process
aborted and I was back at the shell prompt.
I think josm should be moved to contrib if one needs the Java RE from Sun.

java2-runtime. If josm drops this dependency users might need to instal
