Honestly I haven't tried to compile clean sources yet, as the
compilation itself is quite lengthy on my machine.

This happens on my iBook G3 (ppc).
I couldn't get it to work even by disabling dh_strip altogether in
debian/rules. The compiled binary (before packaging) works in any case.
I'd say it's a reproducible bug.

I had no gcl. I have made a reinstall of maxima but the segfault is still
happened.

Have rebuilt bot gcl and maxima in the standard fashion in sid chroot
on bruckner, and cannot reproduce this. May I please suggest
requeueing first gcl and then maxima on this arch.
