I could not reproduce the installation problem. The only thing not
mentioned in the initial report was that I tried to configure a second
instance when dpkg prompted me.

Uninstall problem seems to be snowballed from not being able to
install in the first place.
/var/lib/dpkg/info/redmine.postrm line 10:
