Sorry for the delay - I wanted to test some things. You're right indeed
- the binary looks for the library in the right place after all. I was
too quick to jump to that conclusion.
I have installed the package on my laptop (i386) and it's working
there. On my desktop (which I sent this bug report

The package installs /usr/lib/scrotwm/libswmhack.so.0.0. The binary expects it
to be in /usr/local/lib/libswmhack.so. Due to this library not being found, no
single keybinding works - the WM is unusable.
